On the afternoon of November 26, Sinopec hosted the opening ceremony for Hong Kong's first public hydrogen refueling station in Au Tau, New Territories. The event drew numerous dignitaries, including representatives from the Government of the Hong Kong SAR, Legislative Council of the Hong Kong SAR, Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong SAR, The Hong Kong Chinese Enterprises Association, Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong, as well as industry partners. Located at 17 Kam Tin Road, Yuen Long, New Territories, the Sinopec Au Tau hydrogen refueling station is Hong Kong's first public facility of its kind, integrating oil, gas, hydrogen, and electricity services, marking a landmark achievement in the city's energy development.
The station's first phase will provide a daily hydrogen refueling capacity of 1,000 kg, catering to a variety of vehicles with 24/7 refueling services. It is expected to serve 100-200 small and medium-sized vehicles daily, with refueling times of 5-8 minutes, as well as 30-40 large vehicles, requiring 10-15 minutes for each refuel. As the station's operational scenarios and customer demands grow, it is set to increase its daily hydrogen supply capacity to 2,000 kg. The introductory price at the Au Tau hydrogen refueling station is set at HKD 108 per kilogram. Despite the higher initial costs of hydrogen production and transportation, the station still delivers zero-carbon and low-carbon emissions, quick refueling, and cost savings when compared to gasoline and fuel-powered vehicles.
