Recently, PO-Rein (Shanghai) Energy Technology Co., Ltd. ("PO-Rein"), a joint venture between Zhejiang Rein and France's Plastic Omnium, secured the largest order of 70MPa Type IV hydrogen storage system in China. The signing ceremony with CRRC Intelligent Transport took place in Shanghai, marking PO-Rein as the first Chinese supplier to apply high-pressure Type IV hydrogen storage system technology to rail transportation.
The 70MPa Type IV hydrogen storage cylinders supplied by PO-Rein to CRRC Intelligent Transport will be manufactured and tested at Plastic Omnium's plant in Belgium before being integrated into system and delivered from PO-Rein's plant in China. After vehicle testing, it will be shipped to Malaysia for smart hydrogen-powered trams.
These smart hydrogen-powered trams feature hydrogen propulsion, fully autonomous operation, a range of 245 kilometers, a speed of 70 km/h, and a capacity for over 300 passengers. They can be refueled in just 10 minutes. This collaboration between PO-Rein and CRRC Intelligent Transport will accelerate the application of high-pressure Type IV hydrogen storage systems in hydrogen-powered rail transportation, driving a major shift in the industry. This project is expected to be a flagship initiative within the "Belt and Road" framework.
On the same day, Shenergy CanNova, Plastic Omnium's Hydrogen Division, and Zhongcheng Rapid Transit Holding Group Co., Ltd. signed a memorandum of strategic cooperation. The partnership seeks to leverage the expertise of all three parties to foster the high-quality development of hydrogen in rail transportation and contribute to the technological evolution of green mobility.
The event was attended by prominent figures including Jean-Pierre Raffarin, former Prime Minister of France, Huang Dinan, Secretary of CPC Committee and Chairman of Shenergy Group, Laurent Burelle, Chairman of Plastic Omnium, Laurent Favre, CEO of Plastic Omnium, Félicie Burelle, General Manager of Plastic Omnium, Gu Yifeng, Chairman of China City Industrial Group Co., Ltd., and Simone Tassi, Vice President of China City Industrial Group Co., Ltd. Also present were representatives from Shenergy Group's Investment Management Department and Office, Shenergy CanNova, Zhejiang Rein, PO-Rein, Plastic Omnium's Hydrogen Division, Zhongcheng Rapid Transit Holding Group Co., Ltd. (subsidiary of China City Industrial Group Co., Ltd.), and CRRC Intelligent Transport Technology Co., Ltd., all of whom witnessed the signing ceremony.
As a leader of hydrogen storage and transportation, Rein is dedicated to advancing the high-quality development of hydrogen industry. PO-Rein, a joint venture with Plastic Omnium, introduces cutting-edge 70MPa Type IV hydrogen storage cylinder technology to China, and collaborates with industry leaders to apply it across various green transportation scenarios. This effort strengthens Rein's role in hydrogen storage, transportation, refueling, and utilization, delivering value to customers and advancing the shared goal of sustainable development.
